Boo! Poison candy? Either poison media or poison family

Halloween can be scary.  Kids and traffic don't mix; people take 'pranks' and phobias too far; and candy could have poison, drugs, or sharp objects in them.

Well, you don't need to fear the last one.  Those are just media scares.

Or are they?

With two exceptions, all cases of  'poisoned' Halloween candy were easily traced to the families of the victims.  Keep in mind, the exceptions were packets of marijuana so badly 'disguised' as marijuana that kids could tell and the perpetrator failed to use enough postage to mail them to anyone, and an unrelated case of sepsis.

Should you have been looking over your shoulder all this time at your family?  Probably not, as there were only two cases; one  where the candy offered by the dad had been too obviously tampered for the kids to trust it and a second where the child didn't get into candy at all, but a drug stash--the parents didn't want to look bad, so they sprinkled the rest of the drugs on candy.

The only non-myth has bee needles and razor blades, each time was in a candy where the wrapper had obviously been tampered with.

That leaves the real fear of Halloween: people dumb enough to eat candy when the packaged has been opened by a stranger.

What are you going to be for Halloween? Entitled!

If you're out of the loop, you'll probably think this is hyperbole.  Heck, I doubt many people took these parents person seriously int he first place.  Be assured, these people are serious, much to the laughter of places like reddit, demanding an entire neighborhood give out only candy that their children would not be allergic to.

Keep in mind, these are only the allergies of their children, people like me, who are allergic to ginger or coconut, aren't included.  The signs specifically state it's just their children everyone must pander to.

The signs, in bright orange, show no offer of compromise or even the word 'please'.   They merely say that the children have allergies and would be 'devastated to receive candy they couldn't eat', which should be a symptom of something bigger than an allergy if the child breaks down into tears over a candy the size of an adult's thumb.

Traditionally, children traded candy they didn't like, threw it in the trash, or donated it after parents sorted through what children had collected that night.

It has not been mentioned as to whether the bright orange signs posted over several blocks have attracted attention of other children who might seek revenge on the children whose parents recommended vegetables and fruit be handed out instead of candy.
