For example, why?

A train leaves Houston, traveling 25 miles per hour.  Another train leaves Philadelphia traveling at 60 miles per hour.  Each is traveling 100 miles to it's destination.  Which arrives first.

If I say, this is an example of a math problem, the appropriate response would be 'yes'.

Someone is having trouble devising a simple math problem.

If I tell them the train example without saying it is an example, the appropriate response is 'thank you' or 'what about something more complicated?'

They respond, however, with 'I am not on a train!'

This is an example of having no clue what an example is.  Sadly, it is not as far-fetched as, say, a unicorn.  The appropriate response is to give them a dictionary and tell them how to use it...then hit them with it when they give an example of both hatred and stupidity.
