Something else is outrageous

Black Nerd beat me to most of the problems with the Jem movie, but there is a lot more to the problem posed by such an example of missing the point.

While it's not just this movie (how much do we know about Black Widow as a character?  How many people has she saved or killed?), this movie is nothing but an example of what's wrong with media.

The movie being the director's rehash of his Pitch Perfect is hardly a flaw compared to the message of the movie.  Anyone who has seen the old cartoon (or the IDW comic, uses google, or used youtube), will see the same archaic attitude that has ruined other works: You don't deserve this because you are female.

Men get the superheroes with alternate identities.  You get another Hannah Montana.  You don't get someone who fights crime, you get someone covered in make up who fights someone who creates makeup. You don't get to solve mysteries with the help of sci-fi computers.  You don't get complicated plots, characters, redemption, encouragement to use your brain, told you can be independent, or deadly rivals. You get...well, that's about it: makeup, and underage girls trying to be popular.

The shows of yesteryear like Supergirl, Wonderwoman, and even Elektra that failed because of lack of trying and lack of exposure have been replaced with Catwoman, the failed Wonderwoman pilot, the firing and rehiring of Gail Simone, the abruptly ended Young Justice cartoon, and the facepalming Supergirl show. While greater in number, so is the misogyny that created and ended them--you are female and people SHOULD look down on you.  This is how women need to be treated, according to us, people who wish to shape the world of your sons, fathers, and lovers...because we've given up on your mothers, daughters, and don't believe in those other kinds of lovers.

The MRU could always use more readers and writers.
