Beware of facts

Ever heard of 'show, don't tell'?  In writing, this isn't a strict rule, but it is more of a short phrase expressing that readers want to experience the setting and actions in a story rather than being given a list.

It's also a rule in life and strangely one many people seem averse to as if they were deathly allergic.  If one has passed primary school, one knows that capitals begin sentences and periods end them.  They also understand how this aids communication with others. But what is rarely taught is that doing so shows that you've had such education.

Just like driving poorly indicates to others around you that you lack basic knowledge of the road, so does flouting basic writing rules.  Crossing a double line on the road and purposely failing to use a shift key both display lack of education.  Attitude shows whether or not it was intentional to forgo intelligence or merely never attained it.

Standing up for yourself when you've done what you learned long ago you shouldn't says a lot more about you.  'You don't know me!'  Yes, we do.  We know you look down upon using one's brain.  We know that you think you that because of some secret, you are exempt from rules for all human beings.

'How dare you hurt my feelings?' shows far more.  You think your mood is now higher law than that of the state or country or language.  You don't care that you hurt others by your actions in calling them cruel people by expecting you to act the same way they should.

Your failures teach people a lot. It's your choice what facts you make others aware of.  Do yo make them know that you missed a key on your keyboard and didn't catch the mistake?  Or do you make them aware that you feel those who notice those mistakes should be blamed for what you did and ashamed for it?

If it's the latter, your teachers throughout your education all deserve a prize for putting up with such behavior for nine months.  Or fired for passing you despite you choosing to be incompetent.

The MRU could always use more readers and writers.
