The bad news is, many people assume poor, pathetic, counterproductive reasons why. The wrong reasons. The opposite reasons. With the wrong and opposite morals.
Many proclaim the mantra "if it doesn't affect you directly, why do you care?", which isn't too far off from "out of sight, out of mind".
If it doesn't affect you why do you care? Because you should, that's why.
A child in a hot car with the windows up won't affect you directly. But are you really going to just leave a child to bake to death? Underage sexual slavery still exists in third world countries, including America and it rarely affects anyone but the victims. But does that mean it's okay?
That answer should be--and people like you are another good example of why this is a bad philosophy--'No, that's horrible.'
This is a victory for everyone, gay or straight. It is a victory we all won because how you win and what you win are what define the struggle. You won morals and integrity, whoever you are, as an American.
