In a tenth of the time it takes to make a single video (which was later admitted to be doctored), one could have looked up some basic research and notice PP and the government are already on their side.
People keep ignoring the name of Planned Parenthood, despite how much they protest it. Planned parenthood provides advice, counseling, support, and education on options for women and couples who are prepared to have children and help birthing and raising them. Planned Parenthood has, after all, parenthood in its name.
But opponents focus not on the word Planned, but on the fact that if an unplanned abortion happens, PP offers options and counseling about what to do, including abortions. Despite information on abortions and stages of human gestation, from zygote to morula to blastocyst to fetus to actual baby, being a few clicks and one to three seconds away, there are still offensive and erroneous claims of abortion being child murder, which is he equivalent of thinking you have a million dollar diamond after getting coal in your Christmas stocking.
That's the usual MO of these people, ignore basic biology, use frightening words like 'murder' despite their inaccuracy, and focus on a single procedure. That would be insulting enough (to women, women's rights, gender-role created abuse, science just to start), but when the videos showed up, they dialed the insults up to 11. In them, they had people pose as buyers for fetal tissue. Buying fetal tissue is highly illegal. What the videos leave out is the tissue is given to the hospitals and PP is reimbursed--which means no illegal profit is made. Fetal tissue, which is mostly stem cells (they very same ones that are used to cure cancer, polio, MS,etc), has to be willingly donated by the mother. PP cannot and does not have a say in that decision.
Worse, why make the video? If PP truly did sell fetal tissue for profit, it would be faster to report the incident and have the government launch and investigation.
Because opponents don't want PP funded at all because they are connected with abortion. Despite how easy it is to find out that only 3% of services PP offers is abortion and the government doesn't and can't fund them, of course.
In truth, PP wants that percentage to shrink even further. PP funding goes toward educating men and women to prevent pregnancy in the first place and help women choose which preventative measure is best for them as well as have help to escape dangerous situations that can lead to forced pregnancy, such as rape and domestic violence.
Neither side wants abortions to happen, but only one side wants to lie to you. Both sides want children to be born, but only one side wants to make sure it's born to a family as prepared as possible to care for it.
